Signs And Symptoms That You Are Pregnant

In addition to the fact you experienced a delayed period,  you may experience other symptoms that can sometimes announce a pregnancy. Carry on reading and find out the most common signs and symptoms that should make you decide taking a pregnancy test or visit your gynecologist!

Delayed Period

The most famous sign that can make you aware of the situation and it is reliable when you have a regular period and immediately makes you think of a possible pregnancy. But you should know that short bleedings may occur even if you got pregnant in the first 6-12 days after conception, when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine wall.

Other causes: delayed menstruation does not necessarily mean that you got pregnant, because there are other reasons explaining its absence, such as sudden weight changes, extreme fatigue, hormonal disorders, tension, interrupting birth control treatment.

Swollen And Sensitive Breasts

Swollen and sensitive breasts are often associated with the beginning of a pregnancy, but they may occur only at 1-2 weeks after the moment of conception.

Other causes: your period is approaching, hormonal disorders, birth control treatment, premenstrual syndrome. If the pregnancy test is negative, you can consult a gynecologist for a breast palpation. It never hurts, plus it is recommended go to breast examinations yearly (palpation and ultrasound and in woman over 40’s mammography is recommended).

Bloating And Abdominal Cramps

In the first weeks of pregnancy you can deal with frequent feelings of bloating and abdominal cramps similar to those experienced before or during your period.

Other causes: digestive or gynecological problems. If the pregnancy test is negative, do not hesitate to visit your doctor to find the cause of these symptoms.

Morning Nausea

Morning nausea may occur 2-8 weeks after conception. Some women experience nausea almost on the whole period of pregnancy, while others do not experience this symptom at all

Other causes: food poisoning, stress or other stomach problems that can cause nausea. If you have excluded the possibility of pregnancy, it does not hurt to consult a gastroenterologist.

Food Carvings

Culinary desires may accompany some women throughout pregnancy. But there are cases in which these desires are not manifested more intensely than during the pregnancy period.

Other causes: you may only have a transitory raised appetite or have periods when you simply eat more.

Pregnancy symptoms

Lack Of Energy And Unexplained Fatigue Sensation

Experts say that many women may feel very tired and lack energy during the first weeks after conception,  and attribute these symptoms due to high levels of progesterone.

Other causes: fatigue may occur due to many other reasons such as , depression, intense exercises, cold / flu or other serious diseases.

Frequently Need To Urinate

You may feel the need to urinate frequently, especially during the night. It is thought that a hormone (human chorionic gonadotropin) is secreted in early causing  frequent urination need.

Other causes: urinary infection, diabetes, high consumption of liquids in the evening. If you exclude the possibility of a pregnancy, schedule a consultation at your gynecologist or urologist.

Gingivitis

If you often notice that your gums are bleeding when you brush your teeth you should no longer postpone the visit to the dentist. You should know that gingivitis does not hurt, but can lead to tooth loss. Here is how to you can prevent bleeding gums.

Gingivitis can be installed soon, and if not treated in time can lead to tooth loss. Gingivitis is like cancer, installs, develops and is detected when the oral health is already affected. Like any untreated disease in time, a patient suffering from gingivitis can develop periodontitis that can lead to tooth los. Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums without affecting its attachment to the tooth or bone and is determined by bacterial plaque and can be enhanced by various local and general factors. If the alveolar bone is affected we are already talking about periodontitis.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis

Gingivitis Symptoms

Here are the most common gingivitis symptoms which you must not ignore

  • Red gums
  • Inflamed gums
  • Sensitive gums
  • Gums that bleed easily when touched (during brushing, the table).

If you found these symptoms schedule a dental checkup as soon as you can to prevent complications.

 Gingivitis Risk Factors

  • Smoking
  • Family history of gingivitis
  • Menstruation
  • Pregnancy
  • Menopause
  • Contraceptives
  • Administration of various medicines for hypertension, antidepressants
  • Diabetes
  • AIDS
  • Leukemia
  • Strict diet low in vitamins / minerals
  • Stress.

Gingivitis Prevention

The best solutions for preventing gingivitis are:

1. Brushing teeth at least twice a day, done properly to prevent plaque formation

2. Change your toothbrush as often as you can, the recommended period is every three months

3. After brushing use dental floss and mouthwash to clean the hard to reach areas

4. Visits to the dentist should be performed every 6 months

5. Prevention is essential, as your doctor will perform the routine scaling (removal of tartar deposits) and professional cleaning methods. Professional cleaning is the removal of tartar deposits (scaling) with ultrasonic procedures, followed by the airflow. Airflow-cleaning is a method which consists in removing plaque debris and pigments with a device that throws a stream of water and baking soda well tolerated and without pain.

6. In severe gingivitis: in addition to professional cleaning local-based disinfectants like chlorhexidine are applied, mandatory daily dental brushing preceded by 1-2 weeks of further rinses with chlorhexidine-based mouthwash

7. In pregnancy hyperplasic gingivitis: professional cleaning and complex treatment in the second trimester of pregnancy.

Foods Good For Your Oral Health

In order to prevent cavities and to maintain your oral health, diet, what you eat and how often you eat is an important factor. From the moment you begin to eat certain foods, changes happen in the mouth. Bacteria in the mouth begin to turn sugar from food into acid. Acid is beginning to attack the tooth enamel causing cavities. The more we eat or we have the tend to take snack more often or to chew something, we expose to tooth decay.

Food And Beverage Beneficial For Teeth

Diet And Oral Health

Diet And Oral Health

The best choices for healthy teeth should include: cheese, meat, nuts and milk. These foods are rich sources of calcium and phosphorus which helps tooth enamel remineralization, affected by acids.

Other options include crispy fruits like apples, pears and vegetables. They have a high water content, dilutes the sugar content and stimulates production of saliva (which helps to protect against cavities, washing and counteracting the effects of the acids). Acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomatoes should be consumed as part of a varied meals to minimize the effect of the acid which is contained by this type of foods.

Candies, biscuits, cakes, pies, bakery products, chips, pretzels, french fries, bananas, raisins and dried fruits, in general, are a dangerous choice for teeth.

Sweeteners And Sugar-Free Products

There are sugar substitutes that have the same look and taste with sugar, but their digestion do not produce tooth decay. If a product is being advertised as sugar-free, does not necessarily mean that it is safe for enamel. This only means that the product dose not have in its composition sugar, but can contain in other natural sweeteners like honey, molasses, fructose, which have the same effect on teeth.

How Does Chewing Gum Affects Our Teeth?

The use of sugar-free chewing gum is good for teeth because the remaining food particles between teeth are removed by chewing and increases saliva flow which protects against cavities. Chewing gum can be a problem if you have jaw pain.

How To Take Care Of Our Teeth?

Here are the stages of dental care:

  • Brush your teeth regularly. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and preferably after every meal and snack.
  •  Use a toothpaste that contains fluoride. If you have sensitive teeth, use a toothpaste with high potassium content.
  • Use interdental floss at least once a day.
  • Visit your dentist at least twice a year.
  • Eat a large variety of foods. Eat healthier snacks which are not containing sugar or starch.
Diet And Oral Health

Diet And Oral Health

Choosing foods that naturally fight bacteria, they remove plaque, strengthen the enamel and will fight bad breath. This represent an effective way to keep your teeth healthy. Here are ten suggestions of such foods:

Celery

Celery protects your teeth in two ways, chewing and eating this vegetable will encourage the production of saliva and is a naturally abrasive which will massage your gums and will clean your interdental spaces. Try to chew several pieces of celery or carrot at least once a day.

Cheese

Recent studies have shown that cheeses by their poor content of carbohydrates and high content of calcium and phosphorus helps balance pH, maintain and restore enamel. Try to eat a cube of cheese, about 14 g, instead of dessert, after dinner.

Green Tea

Green tea contains substances that kill bacteria that cause decay and bad breath. Try to drink between 2 and 5 cups of green tea daily.

Kiwi

Kiwi contains more vitamin C compared to its size than any other fruit. Studies have shown that vitamin C deficiency leads to collapse of collagen in the gums leaving them vulnerable to bacteria that cause periodontal disease. A breakfast with kiwi should become a habit that you should follow.

Onions

Onions contain sulfur compounds that are most effective antibacterial when onions are eaten raw. Try to enter a few slices of onion on sandwiches and salads.

Food for Dental Health

Food for Dental Health

Parsley

Chewing parsley or mint leaves after a harsh-smelling meal will be helpful in maintaining a fresh breath. These herbs contain volatile substances that pass rapidly from the blood into the lungs, where are released by breathing.

Sesame seeds

Besides the mechanical action of cleaning and plaque control, sesame seeds are rich in calcium. Sprinkle a teaspoon of sesame seeds over salad or steamed vegetables for easy cleaning of the teeth and 87 mg of calcium.

Shiitake Mushrooms

Lentinan is a form of sugar found in shiitake mushrooms that prevent oral bacteria to produce plaque. Several times per week added to soup 4-5 shiitake mushrooms.

Wasabi

Also known as Japanese horseradish, wasabi will protect your teeth by the same chemical that gives the spicy taste. It prevents growth of bacteria which cause cavities.

Water

By drinking water we keep our gums hydrated and we stimulate our salivary glands. Rinsing the mouth with water helps us to clean the mouth. Try to drink at least 2 liters of water a day, when you can not wash your teeth thoroughly, rinse with water.

Maintain a healthy smile by using the tips above.

Constipation

After different holidays many people are facing the unpleasant manifestations caused by constipation. Constipation is usually by consumption of foods rich in protein such as meat, eggs and cheese, and lack of vegetable fibers. Other common causes include lifestyle, stress or certain long term treatments: atropine, narcotics, diuretics, antidepressants, iron supplements.

What Is Constipation?

In medical terms, constipation is defined as slowing of the intestinal transit. People have a feeling of abdominal pressure, abdominal pain, bloating, nausea or vomiting. Usually, patients present appetite disorders, and due to the reabsorption of toxic substances from the intestines many may experience headaches, dizziness, insomnia, physical and mental fatigue.

The main factor that leads to constipation is a poor fiber diet. Due to lack of time or convenience, people consume too many refined or processed foods, with lack of natural fibers (sausages, canned meat, eggs, white bread, cheese, candy, ice cream). Another common mistake is represented by inadequate hydration(water, soups, broths, juices). People who present predisposition to constipation should drink at least two liters of fluids each day.

Keep in mind that juices that contain caffeine, cola drinks and alcohol can worsen the constipation symptoms.

Constipation

Constipation

Remedies

The best way to handle constipation is correcting fluid and fiber intake and increasing physical activity. A diet with enough fiber (20-35 g / day) helps form a normal stool. Large quantities of fibers are found in black bread, bran bread, beans, cereals, raw or dried fruit, vegetables (asparagus, lettuce, cabbage, carrots). When you eat fibers, you have to drink at least 8 glasses of fluid per day, as they absorb water from the stomach and intestines, thus increasing their volume.

Negative effects of constipation on the body

Constipation can lead to some complications such as bleeding and anal fissures. Also, constipation increases the absorption of toxic substances. Stagnated toxins in the colon enter the circulation, fact that explains symptoms such as fatigue, irritability, decreased energy, drowsiness, mouth odor, sweating. If the first symptoms of constipation are ignored more serious health problems can emerge: stomach problems, liver disease, heart, kidney, even obesity.

Mild constipation can be handled only by changing your diet and lifestyle. In chronic constipation, purgative drugs  must be administered, laxative teas or glycerin suppositories.

People suffering from constipation must meet these long-term dietary and hygiene conditions

Self reflex-creation of going to the bathroom at fixed intervals (morning, after breakfast, evening, after dinner), avoiding the rush, often the reflex is favored by drinking honey in the morning on an empty stomach.

Physical activity (movement) daily, including gymnastics for the abdominal muscles, should not be excluded from lifestyle of a person suffering from constipation.

The most useful measures that can help both to get rid of constipation and to reduce the unpleasant constipation symptoms immediately are those related to dieting:vegetables

  • Avoid rice and cheese
  • Drink two liters of liquid each day
  • Try an eating schedule
  • Eat fruits (apples, pears, apricots, oranges, grapes, figs, nuts, depending on season), for example, two apples a day
  • Dried fruits (prunes, apricots, figs) keep them in water about 3 hours before consumption
  • Eat as many vegetables as possible: lettuce, beets, radishes, green beans, zucchini, peas
  • Sweets and compotes are allowed (jam, marmalade, jam, honey)
  • Replace oatmeal with oatmeal flakes
  • It is recommended that yogurt, buttermilk and kephir to be mixed with honey
  • Meat is indicated in small quantities.
  • Effective in regulating bowel movements is wheat bran soaked in water, tea, fruit juices, milk or yogurt.
  • Bran should be also mixed with honey. Start with 1-2 tablespoons daily, consumed at dinner, and if constipation does not improve after 7-14 days switch to 3 tablespoons a day, after another 1-2 weeks to 4 tablespoons per day. People that do not support bran (sometimes can cause abdominal discomfort and bloating) can substitute with flaxseed.

With a few simple and affordable measures applied to the first symptoms, you can easily get rid of constipation.

Fibrocystic Breast Disease

Any type of breast discomfort should be an alarm sign for every woman. When this is cyclical, characterized by unilateral or bilateral local pain and feeling of tension, most likely it translates into fibrocystic breast disease. It affects a large percentage of women since late adolescence to menopause. The higher incidence is found in woman of childbearing age (30 years) . Besides what journals are writing,  the diagnosis of this disease is relatively difficult to achieve.

For many women the symptoms are reduced in intensity, feeling of tension or slight pain to palpation of the breasts beeing the only warning signs. The most common manifestation is in the range of time before menstruation. The other part of women perceive the pain as excruciating, a relatively uneven mass is felt, with areas of localized nodules in both breasts.

 Fibrocystic Breast Disease

Fibrocystic Breast Disease Causes

Fibrocystic breast disease affects the glandular tissue; the only known function of the glandular acinus is milk secretion. They are surrounded by a mass of fat and connective tissue with supportive role. Glandular acini are composed of 2 types of cells, which secrete milk interconnected with the galactophorous channels and others arranged as a shirt, peripheral epithelial cells. Key to the change of the structure of the glandular tissue is given by the hormonal variations during the menstrual cycle and more specifically the levels of progesterone and estrogen as they can have a direct effect on the breast tissue causing cellular growth and multiplication. Besides estrogen and progesterone and other hormones can induce changes in breast tissue such as prolactin, insulin, thyroid hormones and some growth factors.

With the installation of a new menstrual periods when cells are stimulated to enter into a process of programmed cell death, called apoptosis, cells suffer partial destruction under the influence of local enzymes. The percentage of cell destruction, the degree of inflammation and cell efficiency to clean the destroyed elements varies in each woman, from month to month or even from one breast to another.

Fibrocystic breast disease especially affects women aged over 30 years. In fact it is a cumulative process that begins at puberty and continues right up to menopause. Usually the fibrocystic breast disease affects both breasts and is rarely unilateral. Fibrocystic breast disease onset can be in one breast, but eventually with time it reaches the other breast. Fibrocystic breast disease scares any woman beacause breast pain is usually associated in people’s mind with breast cancer. Especially when it is unilateral and located only in one area of the breast, malignant differentiation of a disease of the breast is relatively difficult to achieve even for a specialist.

Symptoms And Diagnosis

As fibrocystic breast disease diagnostic keys without turning them into diagnostic criteria are pain that varies with the menstrual cycle, the feeling of tension, the relative disorganization in breast tissue. Pain is most often localized in the upper outer quadrant to the axillary area of the breast. Mammograms are relatively difficult to interpret breast ultrasound is considered a better choice. In some cases the safest procedure is breast biopsy. It cuts the diagnosis clear.

Fibrocystic Breast Disease

Fibrocystic Breast Disease

Is There A Risk Of Malignant Trasformation?

Well, like so. If the hyperplasia is in normal ranges the risk is reduced. In the case of atypical hyperplasia the risk raises considerably. It involves genetic mutations that accumulate over time in cells that no longer respond normally to the hormonal stimulation processes. Environmental factors, accumulated toxins can affect metabolic processes and tissue repair processes to remove cellular debris from the body.

All women must accept a breast biopsy to reduce the breast cancer risk. The question remains for the moment without a precise answer as  no correlations were found between the intensity of symptoms and risk of cancer.

Any woman, affected or not must perform self-examinations. A careful palpation of the glandular mass, the peripheral area of the lymph nodes should be made between day 7 and 10 of the menstrual cycle. At this time fluid accumulation and cell growth are minimal. Women with premenstrual manifestations and with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer should be a check by a doctor at least twice each year.

Fibrocystic Breast Disease Treatment

Fibrocystic breast disease lines of treatment aim at reducing symptoms and to correct the hormonal changes. Wearing a bra during the night, the administration of paracetamol and other NSAIDs may reduce symptoms. There are studies that have shown that benefits can be obtained after administration of vitamins such as C, E, vitamin B6 or A. A diet rich in essential fatty acids can also be beneficial.

Women with irregular menstrual cycle are more commonly affected, due to long and irregular hormonal stimulation. An endocrinologist will determine the correct treatment with oral contraceptives that will reduce the menstrual cycle by regulating the hormone chaotic bombardment. For patients who are hysterectomised or who follow a hormone replacement therapies should take a break of 5 days “without estrogen” during the menstrual cycle.

Hormonal changes in thyroid dysfunction and diabetes can be also blamed. Short-term treatment with tamoxifen or anti-estrogenic steroids such as androgen, danazol showed nodular mass reduction in fibrocystic breast disease.

Eating leaves us in obscurity. Caffeine was incriminated for increases in the severity of fibrocystic breast disease symptoms. Latest studies have shown a benefits from strict restriction of caffeine.

Fibrocystic breast disease should not be considered a normal thing that affects a large percentage of women. The risk of confusing the disease with the manifestations of breast cancer is very high. Any change of the breast, any change of the breast skin should send you to the doctor. If the fibrocystic breast disease manifestations are severe and frequent medical examination has to be done as often as possible

Miscarriage

Miscarriage is one prgnancy complication that can be prevented. However, the loss of a pregnancy represents for the mother and the rest of the family, a traumatic life test. To avoid such an unfortunate event, of valuable help is knowing the causes and risk factors of miscarriage thus prevent the fetus from being expelled from the uterus prematurely.

Signs that most common warn of the risk of abortion are pain, disappearance of signs of pregnancy, followed by vaginal bleeding (small amount at first, then heavy bleeding, with clots), loss of amniotic fluid or the onset of painful uterine contractions, rhythmic and regular , like the kind caused by birth itself.

Whatever the cause that starts miscarriage, pregnant women should be the alert right from the first symptoms and do not delay presentating to the doctor at all as fetal life can be saved and many future complications of the mother can be avoided.

Miscarriage

Miscarriage

Infectious Diseases, A Risk For Pregnancy

During pregnancy, infectious disease with fever which pregnant suffer from can cause fetal death and removal of the fetus from the uterus. The most dangerous diseases from this perspective, are: rubella, chlamydia, listeriosis, syphilis, herpes infection in the first trimester of pregnancy and toxoplasmosis. Extra-pulmonary forms of tuberculosis with osteoarticular localization, the extent of the disease to the psoas muscle in the spine, is disabling and sometimes fatal in pregnant women. When tuberculosis is contacted or reactivated during pregnancy, it leaves deep scars, with damage to bone structure, extending to the large joints. Unfortunately, in this case, drug therapy and surgery are not compatible with pregnancy.

Structural Abnormalities Or Endocrine Disorders

Female genital anomalies and diseases such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, congenital uterine changes or those acquired from a previous curettage, ovaries or fallopian tube tumors and cervical incontinence (which causes dilation of the cervix) may be causes of miscarriage. As for the endocrine health, the most frequent causes of pregnancy loss in the first months are hormonal imbalances, caused by a deficiency of progesterone, the excessive secretion of male hormones, thyroid problems or untreated diabetes.

Inadequate Medical Treatment

Extremely aggressive medication used during periods of acute rheumatoid arthritis is contraindicated in pregnancy. From another point of view, severe bone deformities occur, particularly in the pelvis and spine that are a risk for carrying a pregnancy to completion.

Rarefied bone mineral substance, called osteomalacia, women can cause difficulties in pregnant woman. During pregnancy, depletion of vitamin D of the bone can occur, causing bone damage and fractures, especially since, in pregnant women, body weight increases from month to month. Doubleing the consumption of nutrients, of the mother and fetus, reduces the calcium and vitamin D deposits. For this reason eating foods rich in calcium is recommended, providing a strong mineral structure. Mothers who adopted a vegetarian diet (characterized by the lack of any animal product) will have to notice their doctor to prescribe nutritional supplements

Mild forms of polio, with distortions of the bone structure of the legs or spine, can be resolved with cesarean birth. Serious cases of polio represents one of the pregnancy contraindications  due to the complications that can occur such as, shortness of limbs, paralysis, collapse of the pelvis.

Osteogenesis imperfecta, due to structural abnormalities of collagen in the bones, causing fractures that occur at the very first steps. A pregnancy affects the fragile bone structure. On the other hand, vertebral or pelvic fractures, common in obese pregnant women calls into question the possibility of maintaining the pregnancy.

Trauma, Chronic Pathology, Age And Harmful Substances

Traumatic factors, such as abdominal injury, travelling with means of transport to road accidents or even excessive sexual intercourse can cause miscarriage. A women’s ability to maintain pregnancy decreases with age, so in women aged over 40 years, about a quarter of pregnancies end in abortion. Chronic kidney disease, hypertension, severe anemia, deficiencies of protein or vitamins, folic acid deficiencies may make it difficult to continue a pregnancy to the end. Habits such as drinking, smoking, consumption of drugs can cause fetal death or premature onset of uterine contractions.

Sensitive Teeth

Sensitive teeth or hypersensitivity, hyperesthesia in medical terms , is manifested by intense dental pain, caused by various short-term thermal stimuli (cold, warm), mechanical (touch, pressure) or chemical (sweet, sour).

In a healthy tooth, dentin, which is normally sensitive, is covered and protected by the enamel crown. Enamel is the teeth “protective barrier” against pain, and gums protect against external factors.

Sensitive teeth occur when the enamel barrier is removed or gingival retraction due to local or general causes such as fast developing  decay or  enamel dystrophies, tooth abrasion, periodontal disease or vitamins deficiency.

The most accessible method for treating sensitive teeth is the use of oral care products specifically designed for sensitive teeth. Sensitive teeth are manifested by discomfort occurred in one or more teeth at their exposure to foods and hot, cold or sour beverages. Pain may be intense, deeply, suddenly felt in the dental pulp.

Sensitive Teeth

Sensitive Teeth Causes

Sensitive teeth occur when dentin is exposed due to withdrawal of gums. The root dental portion of the tooth that is not protected by enamel, contains small channels that connect the pulp. Other factors that lead to sensitive teeth are:

Brutal teeth brushing and use a hard bristled toothbrushes, resulting in time and thus blunting of tooth enamel dentine exposure.

Degradation manifested in the gum line.

Gums retraction due to periodontal disease.

Gum diosorders (gingivitis). Gingival inflammation causes sensitive teeth due to relaxation of the ligaments that support the teeth.

Cracked teeth, which allows penetration of bacteria and plaque causing inflammation of the dental pulp.

Bruxism. Bruxism is the unconscious grinding of the teeth during the day or during sleep.

Some teeth whitening toothpastes or baking soda-based and peroxide products.

Aging. With age the risk of teeth sesitivity increases as teeth tend to decay.

Mouth water used for long periods of time. Some such products contain acid that destroys dentin and may even reach the dental pulp.

Foods with a high content of acid such as citrus, tomatoes, pickles and tea.

Interventions such as dental routine scaling, application of dental crowns, dental restoration and teeth professional cleaning

Sensitive Teeth Treatment And Remedies

The Steps to reduce dental sensibiitatii are:

  • Maintain a good oral hygiene, brush your teeth at least twice each day and floss daily.
  • Use a soft bristled toothbrush and brush near the gum using gentle movements.
  • Use toothpastes for sensitive teeth treatment. Pay attention! it is recommended to try different types of toothpaste until you find the product compatible with your needs. Also, in patients experiencing sensitive teeth , and the teeth root emergence can be seen, it is recommended to apply a little toothpaste at this level, in the evening before bedtime. Moreover, in these situations you should avoid toothpastes for tartar removal and opt instead for fluorine-based products.
  • Avoid foods that can aggravate the sensitivity of teeth . Use fluorine-based products.
  • If you experience bruxism, use dental trays.
  • Visit your dentist regularly.

If these steps do not provide the desired results, your dentist will perform one of these medical procedures:

  • Dental bonding to cover exposed roots
  • Application of polymer-based gels
  • Dental seals.

Dangerous Drug Interactions You Should Stay Away From

For a person’s health not to be compromised it is advisable not to mix drugs between themselves or with other substances , without any medical advice: alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, prescription drug, over the counter drugs, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements. Some interactions are minor, but others can be dangerous and in some cases even life-threatening .

How Does The Drug Interactions Work?

When drugs are combined three possible effects can occur:

  1. They act independently of each other: alcohol does not interfere with vitamins or oral contraceptives, or vice versa.
  2. They potentate each other either because they affect the brain in the same way, either because a drug concentration increases in a certain body part. For example, alcohol and antihistamines both suppress the central nervous system. This means that both slow the central nervous system functions and a mixture of both can lead to the expected effects of drugs, or strong side effects (extreme drowsiness). Some drugs are extremely dangerous when mixed together, due to their multiple effects, and way in which they affect the body increases the risk of side effects or overdose.
  3. They can cancel or reduce the effects of each. When two drugs have opposite consequences on the brain (eg, drowsiness caused by alcohol vigilance caused by caffeine). When a prescription drug is mixed with other drugs or alcohol, it might not have the wanted effect.

Drug

How Often Do People Use Dangerous Drug Interactions?

Some people mix drugs in order to enhance their effects or compensate the undesirable side effects. The combination of illegal drugs is one such example. Often, people mix different drugs without knowing what they are doing. This is seen especially in the elderly who use prescription medication. For example, you can not mix alcohol with a sleeping as this combination is very dangerous.

Drug Interactions And Dangerous Combinations

Possible complications

  • Alcohol + Tranquilizers (benzodiazepines like Valium, Xanax and Ativan): central nervous system depression, difficulty in coordination, coma, and high risk of overdose and death
  • Alcohol + Antidepressants (eg Prozac, Elavil, Nardil): pronounced depression of the central nervous system, sharp increase in blood pressure which can lead to brain hemorrhage and death.
  • Alcohol + Antibiotics (especially metronidazole, tinidazole, furazolidone (Furoxone), griseofulvin (Grisactin), erythromycin, linezolid, co-trimoxazole and antimalarials) : acceleration of reaction time, rapid effect, headaches, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting
  • Alcohol + Opiate Drugs (heroin, codeine) : severe central nervous system depression, respiratory arrest and even death
  • Alcohol + Tobacco: at least doubles the effects of tobacco, increases the absorption of harmful toxins.
  • Alcohol + Cannabis: amplifies the effect of cannabis and increases the absorption of toxins
  • Alcohol + Stimulants: the effects of alcohol can be masked, blood pressure increases, the state of irritation raises, increases the risk of overdose.
  • Alcohol + Prescription drugs: the benefits of antibiotics and other drugs are cancelled, cramps, nausea, convulsions, coma, vomiting and headaches, the stomach lining can be irritated, gastrointestinal bleeding, and in some cases even death.

Among the most dangerous combinations can be listed

  • Fentanyl And Heroin Or Cocaine – fentanyl is between 50-100 times more potent than morphine. Mixed with heroin or cocaine can cause irregular heartbeat, inability to breathe and death.
  • Warfarin And Aspirin – May increase the risk of bleeding. The risk is further more increased when pills are combined with garlic.
  • Lisnopril And Potassium – can cause abnormal heart rhythm. Potassium is prescribed to balance low levels of this minerals caused by some medications that are used to treat high blood pressure.
  • Statins And Niacin – increases the risk of muscle infringement

When illegal drugs and prescription drugs are combined,  particularly dangerous situations can occur.

Drug Interactions

Drug Interactions

The most common toxic effects include:

  • Damage or central nervous system depression that can range from drowsiness to coma
  • Depression that can lead to difficulty in breathing
  • Cardiac effects (changes in heart rate that can lead to heart arrest
  • Favors convulsions onset
  • Psychological effects such as psychosis.

How To Avoid Dangerous Combinations Of Drugs

The only way in which you can fully protect yourself is to completely avoid mixing drugs. When this is not possible, each person must be informed about the medication they take and how it might interact with other drugs. Before any drug are used it is advisable to ask your doctor or your pharmacist. Information from other sources can and will be in most cases unclear or interpretable.

Each person that uses a drug must:

  • Know what kind of substance is using, for what purpose and what are the possible side effects.
  • Ask your doctor or your pharmacist for information about any mixture of drugs of any kind (including supplements).
  • Be given treatments that are recommended by doctors and not by friends and family.
  • Not increase the dose of medication or painkillers prescribed by the doctor in an attempt to increase their effects.

Hypoglicemia Diet

Most people who are sensitive and suffer from gastric hyperacidity, multiple allergies and have a low energy level may suffer from hypoglycemia and should follow this diet. When a hypoglycemic person eats sweet foods , blood sugar levels will rise sharply, but will return to normal soon. During this phenomenon, even after the normalization of the situation, a number of unpleasant symptoms can affect the breathing process, circulation, digestion ,mental and emotional state of a person.

Hypoglycemia Diet

Hypoglycemia Diet

If the blood sugar rises after ingestion of sweet foods, the pancreas responds by releasing insulin (hormone that acts to regulate blood sugar levels).

In a hypoglycemic person, the pancreas produces too much insulin in response to consumption of sucrose or a combination of glucose and fructose. Excess insulin stimulates the rapid penetration of glucose into cells and the result will be a shortage of oxygen in cells and tissues deprived of minerals and energy, due to the fact that energy will instead issued after an anaerobic process and lactic acid starts to build up.

The main rules of the diet:

  • Gluten-free grains – rice, millet, corn, buckwheat, sago and tapioca
  • Protein-rich seeds – chickpeas, lentils, fenugreek, peas, beans, almonds
  • Animal protein – meat white, red, offal, fish, eggs, goat cheese

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is diabetes occurred in some women during pregnancy due to failure of insulin secretion in the body, insulin needed to maintain blood glucose (blood sugar amount) in the normal range. Blood sugar levels generally increase between week 24 and 28 of pregnancy. Gestational diabetes is different from other types of diabetes, in that it occurs during pregnancy and disappears after giving birth. Other types of diabetes, type I and type II have no known definitive cure yet.

This type of diabetes is a risk factor for the emergence hypertension during pregnancy. The child may have an increased risk of being overweight at birth, which complicates a natural birth. Gestational diabetes during pregnancy increases the risk of diabetes at the subsequent pregnancy, and the risk of developing type II diabetes less than 5 years after birth.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes Causes

Gestational diabetes often occurs due to the fact that the pancreas does not secrete an optimal amount of  insulin. During pregnancy the placenta secretes hormones that block the activity of insulin therefore causes an increased need for insulin to keep blood sugar levels within normal limits. As the pregnancy evolves several hormones are produced to block insulin and the mother will become insulin-resistant.

Gestational Diabetes Risk Factors

Women at high risk of developing gestational diabetes are those who have had gestational diabetes in a previous pregnancy: 30% to 60% of women who had gestational diabetes develop diabetes again when pregnant,

  • Overweight women who gave birth to an overweight child and had an increased insulin need during a previous pregnancy have higher risk of developing diabetes
  • Women who have in their family a parent or a brother or sister with type II diabetes
  • Women from high risk ethnic groups: Latin American, African, Asian;
  • Women who have more than 25 years when they become pregnant: the risk increases by 4% each year, every year after the age of 25.
  • Those that are under the age of 25 years but are overweight
  • Women who had a baby weighing more than 4 kilograms or more than 2 pounds at birth
  • Women with polycystic ovary syndrome: Although it is difficult for a woman to become pregnant with this disease, the risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy is higher than in other women;
  • Women who smoke.

Other factors that indicate an undiagnosed gestational diabetes are:

  • Children with high birth weight (more than 4 kilograms)
  • Parent with hypertension
  • Multiple miscarriages in history
  • Child dead at birth without a specific cause

Gestational Diabetes Symptoms

Gestational diabetes symptoms are represented by thirst , frequent urination, unusual hunger sensation, blurred vision. Gestational diabetes symptoms may or may not be present. Sometimes symptoms are not noticed, as symptoms as frequent urination and increased hunger frequently occur during a normal pregnancy. If gestational diabetes symptoms are present, it is a posibility that diabetes was present and undiagnosed before pregnancy.

Gestational Diabetes Diagnosis

During pregnancy a woman diagnosed with diabetes, a series of tests are necessary to monitor glucose levels and the evolution of pregnancy:

  • Use a glucose level monitor at home 1-2 hours after the main meals
  • Ultrasound is used to estimate the gestational age of the fetus, the fetus weight, health evaluation and possible fetal abnormalities, ultrasound does not accurately estimated weight of the child in recent months
  • Blood pressure and urinary protein tests (routine tests) for which all pregnant women visit the doctor
  • Glycosylated hemoglobin determination, sometimes each month in women with gestational diabetes, glycated hemoglobin is an indicator of average blood glucose over the past 2-3 months, this test is sometimes is used for woman who are suspected to have diabetes before they become pregnant

Tests during labor – during labor and after birth babies born from mothers with diabetes are monitored closely:

  • Fetal heart rate monitoring
  • Mother blood glucose is monitored every hour because it may fluctuate highly and can have higher values than those accepted as normal.
