Gratitude

We all know of this expression, and it is the age old rule of gratitude, etched in gold. We are not always thankful for what we have, such is the human nature; thankless. We want more and more and still more and we lose sight of what we already have and never value things and people close to us.

 

Some People Are Just Born With It

 

Do you just feel thankful once a year on Thanksgiving or is that an everyday ritual for you? If latter is the case with you, you will always have enough. Money you can spend in abundance, loving and caring relationships, a fulfilling career, strong friendships and family that support you through thick and thin. That so called good luck think exists in others’ lives can exist in yours too, but only if you attract it towards you. You simply have to cultivate a generous and genuinely thankful heart.

 

You’ll find that the more you are grateful for what all you have so far from life, good health, a running car, a sweet house, and a reasonably good job“ the easier it becomes to go through daily life.

 

Showing Abundance In Daily Gratitude

 

But, if you’re addicted to constantly fussing about money or finances, or your job, or even the state of your marriage, or how much debt you own to the loan sharks, you’re going to receive more of the same in your life. You're clearly not grateful for what you have received far from life and when your focus is on negative feelings and emotions such as fear, anxiety, insecurity or frustration, you will have ample opportunities to revel in them even more.

 

Life is a demon on all fours and the best way to tame it is through meditation for gratitude. Remember, it is not going to be fair, life never is, and that's the way of the Universe we live in. So unless you find a different universe to live in, learn to practice being grateful and you will know what you have been missing out in life or the life you have been missing out for so long.

 

To enjoy a rich, successful and a much happier and self-fulfilled life, you need to be grateful, thankful and mean it. You'll notice that you’ve become more connected with yourself, you have elevated from your usual self and feel a much needed surge of power and strong will. You'll eventually stop seeking love or acceptance, or approval from anyone. You'll feel closer to nature.  You can almost feel the wisdom of the Universe running through your veins, enlightening you from within. You'll abandon all your fears, the thoughts of uncertainties, be it your marriage or your job, or the economy. Need some help steering towards a grateful mind?

 

Shutting off the negative thoughts from your mind is the very first step you need to take, out many are not quite sure how to go about it. Give It A Try

 

Finding 5 to 10 minutes in the evening or morning won’t be hard for you to spare for a little one on one with nature. Find a relaxing spot in your house or balcony or the terrace or the garden, when you are alone and are not expecting any calls or are free from any interruptions or distractions. Sit or lied down on a mat or a pillow, whichever feels more comfortable. Cross your legs and slowly close your eye and become more aware of yourself.

You usually fall into the trap of being given the wrong information through an ill informed neighbor, a misinterpreted magazine or a commercial which you watched with a half heart in your busy schedule. But nevertheless, the more frequently you come across it or you hear about it, the more you start believing it. In a world of heart attacks, there is a strong battle that every Cardiologist fights everyday against death so that someone can survive a heart attack. Apart from this, they also fight different myths that are related to heart attacks which they think if can be cleared somehow would pave way in assuring a healthy heart and a healthy life.

One of the most significant mythical attacks is the thinking of the people who think any kind of exercise is good for the heart. So they invent their own kind of exercises to console themselves that they have had their dose of exercise full for the day, when actually nothing happens. They need to realize that the heart is going to be benefitted when you go for a jog, cycle or climb a hill and you see yourself puffing for breath. “Even while going for health check-ups, a mammogram or a pap smear test is listed (to detect cancer), but not a heart check-up, which is very necessary,” he added.

 

Even when the family checks up are made, the woman is expected to get herself tested for breast cancer more than a heart check up. A study done at the MIT says that the working woman hardly gets time to get themselves checked for a heart check up and the housewives are the worst hit. At least the working women are aware of the health related issues and are able to somehow give justice to the heart by walking around, the housewives are too busy in their household chores to even step outside their house.

 

The studies also reveal that the women do have estrogen hormone which tends to give them a protection against the heart attacks but the contemporary lifestyle of eating junk, smoking, contraceptive pills and drinking makes them vulnerable to cardio failures.

Aging Cells

A human body is composed of various types of cells. These cells constantly divide so that dying cells can be replenished.  Everyday millions of red blood cells in our body die and in order to maintain a healthy circulatory system, our body needs to produce the same amount of them. The reason we age is that some cells can no longer divide. This happens because of the shortening of the cell's DNA.

 

The cell division is a complex process. Each time a cell divides, a small part of the cell's DNA is lost from the end of the DNA strand. In order that no genetic information is lost, there is non-coding DNA at the end of the strand which is known as telomeres. The cells stop dividing when the telomeres reach a certain length. Certain cells can divide indefinitely because of the presence of an enzyme known as telomerase. This enzymes synthesizes to produces more telomeres that attaches itself at the tail of the DNA. This makes it possible for the cell to continue dividing.

 

Researchers at the Salk Institute have made a break through discovery that could hold the key to healthy aging. They have found an on/off switch in the cells that could encourage healthy cells to keep dividing and multiplying to replenish dying cells. That means, even in old age lung, liver or other vital organ tissue could regenerate keeping them healthy.

 

The new study that has been published on September 19th in the journal Genes and Development, says that telomerase even when present can actually be turned off.

 

Vicki Lundblad, Senior Author, Professor and holder of Salk’s Ralph S. and Becky O’Connor Chair said that in previous studies, it was suggested that once assembled the telomerase is available only when needed. However, the present study lead to the discovery that telomerase actually has an off switch which makes the disassembly possible. This knowledge of an ˜off' switch can be crucial in developing treatments for diseases of aging. If we can understand how this off switch can be manipulated, we can slow down the telomere shortening process. It can also help us in innovating ways to regenerate vital organs later in life.

 

Lundblad together with first author and graduate student Timothy Tucey carried out their studies in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the yeast that goes into making wine and bread. In previous researches, Lundblad’s group had used this simple single-celled organism to reveal various insights about telomerase and prepare the groundwork for guiding similar findings in human cells.

 

Tucey adds, “We wanted to be able to study each component of the telomerase complex but that turned out to not be a simple task,” That is why Tucey framed a strategy that let him to observe and study each component during cell growth and division at very high resolution. This study led to several discoveries about telomere, and how it works.

 

When a cell divides, its entire genome has to be duplicated. While this duplication happens, Tucey observed that telomerase sits poised as a “preassembly” complex, missing a critical molecular subunit. But as soon as the genome has been fully duplicated, the missing subunit unites with its companions to form a complete and active telomerase complex. This is the state when telomerase can replenish the ends of shortening chromosomes and ensure healthy cell division.

 

Interestingly, Tucey and Lundblad also discovered that immediately after the full telomerase complex has been assembled, it rapidly disassembles to form an inactive “disassembly” complex. The inactive state is achieved by flipping the so called switch into the “off” position.

 

The duo speculate that this disassembly pathway maybe a means to keep telomerase at exceptionally low levels inside the cell. That is because cancer cells rely on increased telomerase levels to ensure uncontrolled cell growth. The “off” switch found by Tucey and Lundblad may be the means to keep the activity below this threshold.

 

The development of practical applications with these discoveries is at an early stage. However, if successfully implemented, it could prove useful in providing effective treatments to age related diseases It could also be an alternative approach to using stem cells.
