If fat is deposited over time inside the cells of your liver, it can result in inflammation and cause steatohepatitis. Such inflammation can destroy liver cells. There are a few things that you can do to repair a fatty liver.

Stop or limit your alcohol

If you want to find a solution for fatty liver problem, you need to understand that alcohol can play a very big role in it. If you are drinking excessive alcohol it can result in alcoholic fatty liver disease. In case of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, you can always reduce alcohol consumption and if possible completely stop it. It will help you to repair the already damaged liver and prevent future possible damage because of alcohol consumption.

Avoid some medications

There are some medications which can cause damage to your liver. You need to avoid such medications because they will damage the liver and make it more susceptible to different liver problems including fatty liver problem. If you already have liver problem, your doctor will avoid such medications and will prescribe an effective alternative for you. You will need to talk to your doctor to ensure that he/she knows about your present medical condition and live problems. There are some medications which are known to worsen the liver condition in people suffering from fatty liver. Cortisteroid, tetracycline, methotrexate, irinotecan, some anti-HIV medicines and some other medications are not suitable for you when you are suffering from fatty liver. There are some over the counter medicines and supplements are also harmful for you when you are suffering from fatty liver.

Lose excess weight

If you are overweight, it will significantly increase the possibility of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). You need to lose weight to change the condition. You will have to lose 3 to 5% of your total body weight to improve a fatty liver condition. Sometimes, losing more weight may be necessary if steatohepatitis has already developed in your liver. If you are an overweight person and if you have NAFLD, you will need to lose 7 to 10% of your total weight.

Exercise can help you to lose your excess weight. Even without losing weight, exercise can help you to improve your fatty liver condition. It can alone produce improvement. All you have to do is move your body in a session of 30 to 60 minutes and you will need 2 to 3 sessions per week.

Check your diet

You will need to make some changes in your existing diet because probably that is the cause of your fatty liver. You will have to reduce the total number of calories you are consuming every day. Such changes will definitely help you to start your journey towards improvement. You will need a healthy diet like a Mediterranean diet which is high in fresh fruits and vegetables and low in saturated fats. Such a diet will help you to improve your fatty liver condition even without losing any weight. Reduce the amount of red meat you consume and also avoid fried foods both of which will reduce saturated fat consumption and will thereby help you to reduce fat deposition in your liver.
