Even though you are trying hard to lose belly fat, you not able to do that. There are some reasons why this is happening. Let's find out what these reasons are.

You are getting older

As you gradually age, they will be some body changes. Your body will change the way it gains and loses weight. Your metabolic rate will decline in the number of calories you need to function will also decrease. It is more difficult in case of women. After menopause, they tend to gain weight and it happens mostly in their midsection. Due to shifting hormones in case of women, women tend to gain more weight in their bellies.

Processed foods

You are not losing your belly probably because you are eating too many processed foods. Refined grains such as crackers, white bread and chips makes your body to gain weight. Refined sugars in different sweetened drinks and desserts will also add more fat and weight to your body. These processed foods will derail your efforts to lose belly fat. You need to replace the processed foods with natural foods like fruits and vegetables and whole grains. They're full of antioxidants and they also have anti-inflammatory properties and they will help you to prevent belly fat.

Wrong workout

If you are not losing weight even after you're trying hard, you are probably doing the wrong workouts. Cardio is very good for your heart but only cardio may not be able to help you to lose weight specially the weight in your midsection. You need a combination of cardiovascular training along with weights. Strength training is very important because it will help you to increase muscle mass and more muscle will mean that you are burning more calories throughout the day. Moderate intensity strength training exercises for 4 to 5 hours every week or high-intensity exercises of 2 to 3 hours every week should be good enough for you.

It is also possible that you are doing the wrong exercises. For example, probably you are doing crunches but crunches alone cannot help you to reduce belly fat and reveal your six pack. If you want to reduce more fat and show your six packs, you will need to do functional exercises which will use the muscles in your core. Since such exercises use more muscles, you will be able to burn more calories while performing these exercises. Planks are always good for you because they will activate your core muscles but will also engage your leg, arm and butt muscles.

Wrong fats

You not losing belly fat probably because you are eating the wrong fats. You need fats for proper functioning of your body but when you're trying to lose belly fat, you have to be very careful. Not all fats are equal and neither your body reacts the same way to all fats. If you are consuming more saturated fats which are present in meat and dairy, it is likely to increase visceral fat in your body. If you are consuming more monounsaturated fats, which are present in olive oil and avocados, it will help your body to shed more weight and fats. Polyunsaturated fats such as omega-3 present in walnuts, fatty fish like salmon and sunflower seeds, will help you because they have anti-inflammatory effects in your body. However, eating too much of fat of any kind will increase the total amount of calories and that may result in weight gain. It means that you need healthy fats but in moderation.
