Everyone knows that they are going to get older and many people decide to age gracefully, while others do whatever it takes to keep that youthful appearance they once knew. While, in reality, there is truly no fountain of youth out there, there are a few habits that you could avoid that will make you look older before you have too. With that in mind, read on below for a few of those habits.
Abusing Drugs and Alcohol
The abuse of drugs and alcohol is one of the top contributors to looking old before your time. People who drink and do drugs live hard and are apt to not take care of themselves the way that they should. That is why it’s so important to get help if you have a substance abuse problem, whether it’s at the Windward Way Treatment Center, if you are in California, or somewhere else if you aren’t. Not only can drug abuse make you look older, but it can also be a death sentence as well.
Failing to Stay Active
No matter what age you are, whether it’s 22 or 52, you need to know how important it is to stay active, if you want to stay looking and feeling young. One fun fact you might want to know is that working out not only strengthens and makes your muscles taut, but it also tightens up your skin as well. Your skin going loose and flabby is the first sign that you are aging prematurely. Exercising and staying active is a great way to keep your youthful appearance, even when the aging process does start.
Staying Out in the Sun Way too Much
Have you ever run into someone who you think is in their sixties, only to find out later they are actually in their forties? Nine times out of ten, the reason for that is that they worship the sun and stay out in it way too much. While the sun is good for you, as with anything else, it’s only good in moderation. Using the proper sunscreen can also help to reduce premature aging from being out in the sun and it helps to protect you from skin cancer as well. That is a win-win situation if ever there was one.
Failing to get Those ZZZs
Studies show that failing to get enough sleep isn’t just bad for your health, it can make you look years older than you truly are as well. Failing to get enough sleep leads to stress and looking worn out, both of these lead to premature wrinkles and aging. You should try to get enough sleep on a nightly basis if you want to keep that dewy, fresh-skinned look that you love. After all, this should be one of the easiest things on the list to accomplish, if you follow the others.
These are just a few of the habits that you should break if you want to keep your youthful appearance. Making sure to sleep enough, avoid drug use, and stay out of the sun without sunscreen is a start, wouldn’t you think?
