If you are thinking about having a baby then you'll quickly notice that everyone round you is pregnant.  This can become especially frustrating when you have been trying for months or even years without success.

You're not alone! Current statistics show that 1 in 6 couples have a problem with fertility.

While your friends will reassure that it will just happen, you need to be a little more proactive. There are two things that should be done; book yourself in for laparoscopic surgery. This process will investigate what is going on inside your body through the miracle of keyhole surgery.

The second thing is to start looking at your diet and eat these fertility boosting foods:

Citrus Fruits

These are full of vitamin C, potassium, calcium and folate which help to regulate ovulation. This should create a healthier environment for any eggs you have and increase the chances of a pregnancy taking.

Leafy Greens

These are generally very good for your health. Particularly useful is the iron, calcium and folate provided by leafy greens like kale, spinach and Swiss chard.

This will help to prevent birth defects when you are lucky enough to conceive.

Berries

These are great for men and women. Berries are full of folate, vitamin C and fiber. All of these can help you to have a more fertile environment inside and increase your chances of becoming pregnant.

Avocado

These are also high in folate. However they are also full of vitamin K which improves your absorption of minerals; effectively allowing your body to use the nutrients you've been giving it.

As a bonus avocado has high levels of vitamin E which protects cells from oxidative damage; this is particularly beneficial if you have PCOS.

Quinoa

Yet again you'll find this full of folate. But, quinoa is also full of zinc which is especially good for male fertility.

The fact that it is high in fiber will help to ensure constipation and the vegetable based proteins can increase your odds of conception over animal based protein.

Greek Yoghurt

Not everything needs to be low fat when looking to improve your fertility. Greek yoghurt is full of calcium, probiotics, proteins and vitamin D. This will boost your bone strength and help the eggs in your ovaries to mature properly.

Salmon

This is full of Omega-3 and DHA; both essential to ensure normal brain and eye development in your child.

Of course you need to go for organic salmon and don't overdo it.

Eggs

Eat all of the egg to get the best fertility benefits. It is full of minerals and other nutrients that are designed to help your body function properly. There are even amino acids to help your embryo's early development.

Walnuts

These are great as a little treat and full of omega-3 and magnesium.

Magnesium is exceptionally beneficial to men and women as it boosts blood supply to the genitals; improving fertility. It is also a key element in testosterone production which is essential for healthy male sperm.
