mental health awareness

These days we are becoming more and more mental-health savvy and we know that we’re less inclined to feel victimised should we have mental health issues. However, looking after your mental health is not always that easy. The good news is there are a few things you can do to ensure your mental health gets better.

Let’s take a look at a few tips that can help you look after your mental health:

Talk About How you Feel

One of the most important things you can do is to talk about how you feel. Sometimes just talking to another person can help lift the weight off your shoulders. Talk to someone you can trust about your feelings and listen to any advice that they give you. Sometimes a problem shared is a problem halved.

Stay Active

While you might not feel inclined to get active it’s important that you do. Do something you enjoy just as taking a walk, going to the gym, or playing tennis or football. When you exercise you feel much better and that feeling can put a whole new perspective on things. Once you’ve become more active make sure you stay more active so you can continue reaping the benefits.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Eating a balanced diet can help you to feel better. The more nutrients you give your body the better you will feel. Try to cut down on sugary, fatty, and salty foods. Instead, opt to eat more fruits and vegetables. Not only will you have more energy but you’re also likely to lose a little bit of weight.

Ask for Help

If you are struggling with your mental health you should consider asking for help. These days you can have online therapy if you don’t want to or don’t have the time to see a therapist in a ‘regular’ setting. Therapy can be quite useful and it can help you to get a lot off your chest and really talk about your feelings and experiences.

Limit your Alcohol Intake

Alcohol is a depressant and can make you feel worse. When you drink large amounts of alcohol it can start to affect your health. Try to cut down on how much you drink but don’t beat yourself up for using alcohol as a coping mechanism. You just have to find a way to cope that’s less harmful to you.

Do Something you Enjoy

A good way to look after your mental health is to do something you enjoy. Do you enjoy gardening? Like to spend time with your friends? Want to draw something? Whatever it is that you like to do why not do it as often as you can? If something brings you real pleasure doing it as often as you can help you to feel better. It can also boost your self-esteem which is never a bad thing. We all need to look after our mental health a little more. Why not use the above tips to help you look after yours a little better?
