When you have low levels of testosterone in body, how do you know about it? Are there any signs and symptoms which will warn you against the dreaded problem of low testosterone?
There are signs and symptoms which will help you to understand if you have low levels of testosterone. Let's find out what they are.
Problems with erection
If you have low testosterone, you'll find it difficult to get or maintain erections. Testosterone stimulates the penile tissues to produce nitric oxide which causes several different reactions that ultimately results in an erection. If the levels of the hormone are too low, you may not be able to get an erection.
There are some other factors which can cause erectile dysfunction like smoking, thyroid related issues, high cholesterol, stress, anxiety, alcohol consumption, diabetes, high blood pressure and so you should be careful about deciding whether you have low levels of cholesterol or these factors are causing erectile problems in your case.
Hair loss
Many men experience hair loss is a natural part of ageing and some women also experience it. A study done in 2012 found that testosterone implants can support the regrowth of hair in some women. If you are suffering from hair loss, it can be because of low levels of testosterone. Both loss of body and facial hair may happen because of low levels.
Reduction in the amount of semen
If the testosterone level is low in a man, then reduction in the amount of semen may happen. It is the fluid that makes up the majority of male ejaculate. It helps the sperm move towards the egg. Testosterone is useful because it stimulates the production of semen. So, if there is a reduction in testosterone, it can also reduce the levels of semen. Since it is important for mobility of the sperm, it can also result in fertility problems.
Reduction in bone mass
As a result of low levels of testosterone, reduction in bone mass may happen. Testosterone helps in producing bone tissue and maintain bone volume. If you have low testosterone, it can result in reduction in this volume and as a result of that your bones may become susceptible to fractures.
Reduction in testicle size
Someone suffering from low testosterone levels may see reduction in the size of the testicles. In general, reduction in testicle size may happen because of cold temperature but if you are experiencing it at the warm temperature and it is not anyhow related to cold or drop in temperature, it may be because of reduction in production of testosterone. During this time the scrotum will also feel softer than usual.
Reduced sex drive
If the testosterone levels are low, men will have reduced sex drive. Men who suffer from low testosterone often experience a reduction in sex drive. It may happen naturally with age but if it is happening because of low testosterone levels, you will notice a significant decrease in the desire for sex.
Reduced energy levels
If the production of testosterone goes down, it will result in reduced levels of energy and fatigue. If you suffer from it, you will feel tired and that feeling will be there most often. Even after adequate rest, you may not feel refreshed. It may also cause a reduced interest in exercise movement.
