Summer, just as winter is a season for easy weight gain. If you want to prevent your body from being ruined by summer weight gain, you are going to need to know how to ride out the heat.
Eating too much to prevent heat exhaustion during the summer is a very easy option and is readily available to all of us.
Before calories, remember what always comes first is nutritional balance. You need to avoid skipping meals, especially breakfast. Get a wide variety of different foods into your meals for balanced nutrition. This is because if you plan on eating ice cream all summer, you'll stay cool but also gain weight.
Start moving
Even if you move just a little every day, the amount of calories you burn will add up and make a huge difference. Moreover, any type of activity will increase your cardiovascular fitness and your overall health.
We all are humans and its okay to indulge a bit. You’ll probably be more active after a cheat day and be overrun by guilt to make amends by working harder in the gym to take off those extra pounds that might just stick to your body.
Still guilty? Start touring and running around to check out the local cuisine and be more active than ever. One or two big meals at the local hot spots and you’ll soon be satiated and sweating at the same time.
Be smart while you eat out
Avoid greasy burgers and fatty muffins as much as you can. Pack (or pick up) a sandwich on whole wheat sub, some nuts, and an apple. A diet that has a high nutritional value will never let you down, your weight however is a different story. You can go about your business around town during summers without adding any thickness to your waist.
Play the switch
You could always switch the dishes with your partner when in a restaurant. Ordering one healthy and one not so healthy indulgence would be a wise choice. Exchange the meal half way through and enjoy both the sides of a meal.
Be pretentious in your approach
You could also pretend in your mind to be a food critic and go on a tasting spree of your own. Nothing can satisfy your senses and keep you guilt free at the same time better than this sly technique.
Instead of ordering a whole serving of that favorite dessert of yours, try stealing a bite of your kid’s ice-cream or your wife’s cheese cake or your husband’s pudding. This way you won't have to consume an entire serving of your guilty pleasure and minimize weight gain drastically.
You pleased your taste buds but didn’t make your goal sad which is to avoid that summer weight.
Steer clear of all you can eat buffet
Yes, might seem a bit farfetched but you will encounter these everywhere during summer vacations. So unless you willfully want to destroy your resolve to stay in shape, don’t go for it. Besides, summer does play tricks with you when offers like this come to you at discounted prices.
Make it yourself
Yeah, you heard right. An effort to prepare all your breakfasts, plus either lunch or dinner each day might sound like a task that is so boring — but it delivers. With that in mind, make a grocery list on the go and choose only the healthy stuff.
Bear in mind that stuffing your mouth with healthy food is the only way to avoid looking stuffed this summer.
