If you are suffering from is swollen, tender, bleeding gums, you're not alone. Many people suffer from the problem of painful and bleeding gums. It is very important to maintain a very good oral hygiene if you want to avoid this problem. If you are already suffering from it, you can use some home remedies.

Salt water

Rinsing with salt water is an age old home remedy which is effective. It dries up bacteria. If you want the best results you need to add baking soda and hydrogen peroxide along with salt water. The solution will destroy the bacteria and will also clean the area. Take a container and make a 50/50 mixture of salt and baking soda. Now you can dip your toothbrush in hydrogen peroxide and massage your gums and brush your teeth, then rinse with the salt water and baking soda mixture.

However, you should be careful while using it if you have high blood pressure because of the salt content. If the mixture is too salty, it can irritate the tissues in your mouth.

Oil pulling

Oil pulling has become very popular recently because of its possible health benefits. In this, you swish oil in your mouth for a period of time to treat different health conditions. It can also help you to stop the problem of bleeding gums. However, there is not enough evidence to support the use of oil pulling to treat different types of dental problems. But some studies found that oil pulling can provide you benefit in case of bleeding gums.

In oil pulling you can use edible oil like sesame, olive, coconut or sunflower. You can swish the oil in your mouth for anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes.

Dairy and crunchy foods

Milk products have calcium which is a nutrient that can strengthen your teeth. If you regularly eat dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt, you're likely to have less gum disease. Evidence of this was found in different scientific studies.

If you also eat carrots and celery as snacks, that can also help you. They may help because of their crunchiness. Crunchy foods can take the plaque of your teeth. When you chew such foods, your mouth makes more saliva and that can wash away food particles and acids that can result in tooth and gum damage.

Herbs and oils

If you rinse your mouth with some herbs and oils, they can reduce bacteria and inflammation in your mouth. Peppermint, red time, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus oil and lavender oil and extract from hearts like Echinacea can help you in different types of dental problems. According to some researchers such herbal products and oils can reduce your plaque and gum inflammation.

Calendula is another herb which is commonly known as marigold. It is a good natural product for your sore gums. It can also fight plaque and gingivitis. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease and it can result in gum bleeding.

Home remedies can help you with bleeding gums but they are not a cure all. Even though home remedies are good, delivering them under the gum where the disease starts can be difficult. For example, rinsing with a home remedy can only go as the best 3 mm under the gums but gum disease may develop little pockets around the teeth which may be well in excess of 3 mm.
