Clean your tongue
Brushing your teeth is important but cleaning your tongue is as important as that. Because your tongue has a big surface area it can harbor more bacteria than your mouth combined. If you can remove the bacteria on your tongue it will help you to get rid of bad breath. There are tongue brushes available which can be used for scrapping the tongue. You can also use a regular soft bristled toothbrush to clean your tongue. If you suffer from a sensitive gag reflex, it may be little difficult for you to brush your tongue but there are ways to reduce or suppress the gag reflex and which will help you to clean your tongue better.
Brush regularly
Even though it seems a simple technique, but brushing your teeth regularly will definitely help you. It will reduce your bad breath problem to some extent. You will need to brush your teeth twice daily. The major sources of bad breath are bacteria and decaying food particles. In your mouth, there are many nooks and crannies which can allow such rotting. Get little bit of toothpastes on a soft bristled toothbrush and hold the brush at a 45° angle to your gums. Using some short, gentle strokes you can now brush your teeth on every surface. You need to brush for three minutes to clean every area including gums. You can use mouthwash to rinse your teeth and gums at least twice a day. Flossing will also help you to ensure that you are not suffering from bad breath. Flossing at least once a day is recommended for you. You need to take care to ensure that you are brushing all the areas of your mouth which includes the gums and the tongue along with the teeth.
Floss everyday
It is important for you to floss everyday if you want to maintain good oral health. It should be a habit for you like brushing. At the initial stage, flossing may result in little bit of bleeding but you should not be worried about that because you are already dislodging the rotting chunks of food which are causing the bad breadth.
Use mouthwash
Mouthwash is very important to eliminate bad breath. It will also keep your mouth moist. You need a mouthwash that contain chlorine dioxide. Several of the bacteria that cause bad breath or halitosis leave on the back of your tongue and scrapping or brushing may not reach them. If you swish with a mouthwash containing chlorine dioxide, you’ll be able to neutralize those difficult bacteria.
You can rinse your mouth with mouthwash before brushing your teeth, flossing and scrapping the tongue and again after you are done. It will help you to eliminate any bacteria that remains even after the process is complete.
Chewing gum
Chewing gum will also help you to get rid of bad breath. When you chew gums, more saliva is produced in your mouth and that will prevent bacteria formation. Some gums are better than others. If you found a gum with cinnamon flavoring, you should use it because it is more effective in eliminating bacteria numbers in your mouth. You can also find gum sweetened with xylitol which is a sugar substitute and an element that will prevent bacteria from replicating inside the mouth.
Keep your mouth moisturized
If you want to prevent bad breath, you will need to keep your mouth moisturized. Chewing gum will help you to do that. Drinking water will also help you to wash away the bad bacteria.
