Don't Miss Any Doctor's Appointments
Any health condition that can affect your children's growth must be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. It's essential that you take your child for a regular checkup to make sure that there is nothing to worry about.
You will also need to monitor the speed of the child's growth and consult a specialist if you notice that something is wrong. Even if your son or daughter is fine physically, the doctor will be able to determine whether there is something lacking in their nutrition.
There are some very helpful books and programs that can teach you all you need to know about how to ensure that your children grow tall and healthy. If you want to take a look at one of them, click here!
Healthy Diet for Growing Kids
Protein and calcium are the most important elements for growth. To be able to grow properly, children require:
- Age 4-8
19 mg proteins per day
800 mg calcium per day - Age 9-13
34 mg proteins per day
1,300 mg calcium per day
The daily dose of calcium should stay at this level at least until the age of 18. Four glasses of milk will be able to provide this norm, but drinking this much milk every day will definitely be too much. Some other products that will provide you with the necessary nutrition are:
- Dairy products
- Green vegetables
- Cereals
- Whole grains
- Fish
- Mushrooms
- Legumes
- Lean meat
- Eggs
- Oysters
- Peanuts
- Peas
All these foods will provide your body with the necessary calcium and proteins as well as with zinc and vitamin D that are essential for normal growth hormone levels.
Don't Harm Yourself
Teenagers are often directly responsible for their stunted growth. This is caused by bad habits they pick up. Explain your child that the following things will affect them on hormonal level and can deal some irreparable damage to their bodies.
- Smoking
- Consuming large amounts of caffeine
- Taking steroids
Please note that lack of sleep is just as detrimental for normal growth. In order to reach their full potential, children should sleep 8,5 hours every day. The number should be bigger for younger kids.
Learn the Right Exercises
Exercising plays an important part in the process of physical growth for every person. Even adults, who have their bone structure set, can grow a few inches with the right workout routine.
The exercises that are the most beneficial for getting taller are:
- Stretching
Simple wall stretch is the first step towards reaching a child's full height potential. Get your kid to stand with their back to the wall, then lift their arms and stretch as far as they can. Next, the child should sit down on their toes, back still to the wall, and stretch their leg muscles. The exercise should be repeated at least ten times.
Once the child's muscles become accustomed to the exercise, they should progress to more complex stretches. - Yoga
Surya Namaskar and Adho Mukha Syanasana are yoga techniques that will allow your child to stretch their whole body and fix their posture. Bear in mind that it's imperative for a child to keep their posture straight to seem taller. - Hanging
A bit of hanging from bars will do wonders to your child's spine. This exercise will not only help them grow taller, but will also reduce the risk of scoliosis and other conditions that affect back and spine.
