Hemorrhoid occurs when veins in your anus or rectum get clogged. This leads to the occurrence of thromboses that virtually become hemorrhoids. Depending on where they occur, hemorrhoids are divided into external and internal.

a sad man visiting his doctorSome severe forms of hemorrhoids can burst and cause bleeding. These cases are extremely dangerous and require immediate medical attention. Surgery is by far the most effective treatment for this condition, but it's not strictly necessary to get rid of hemorrhoids.

You must also understand that going through surgery doesn't mean that you won't suffer from hemorrhoids again. This problem occurs because the blood vessels in your rectum and anus are weakened. This means that if you don't deal with the source of the problem, hemorrhoids can reoccur regardless of how many surgeries you go through.

Natural Remedies for Hemorrhoids

  • Teabags
Tea is rich with tannin that can effectively reduce swelling and inflammation. Apply a warm and wet teabag to the hemorrhoid and leave it for several minutes. Repeat the procedure several times a day.
  • Witch Hazel
Witch hazel is another herb that contains a lot of tannin. Therefore, its effect will be similar to that of a teabag, but more potent. Apply a cotton pad soaked in witch hazel solution topically and you will feel the immediate effect.
  • Epsom Salt
Relaxing in a warm bath laced with Epsom salt will reduce the swelling and ease the pain. In order to attain maximum exposure of your anal area to the healing water, you will need to sit up and raise your knees. Stay in this position for 15 minutes for the best effect.
  • Ginkgo Biloba
This is a traditional Chinese supplement that is used to treat various vein disorders. It strengthens the blood vessels, makes them more flexible and improves blood flow.
  • Ice
A simple ice pack will help relieve some pain and reduce swelling. For maximum effect, it should be complemented with some topical ointment.

Effective Hemorrhoids Prevention

Getting rid of hemorrhoids is only a part of your problem. If you aren't careful, you can develop this nasty condition again shortly, and treating it will be harder every time.

In order to prevent this, you will need to follow some rules:

  • Eat foods rich in fiber.
This will ensure that you don't suffer from constipation that is one of the main causes of hemorrhoids.
  • Drink lots of water.
You must stay hydrated at all times. This will improve your overall health and will soften the bowel masses.
  • Use stool softeners if necessary.
If the process of emptying your bowels gets uncomfortable, take some stool softeners to protect your body from physical damage caused by thick stool.
  • Be physically active, but don't overdo it.
If you have to sit a lot because of work, you must stand up and walk around a bit every other hour. Constant pressure will increase the risk of hemorrhoids greatly and make it more difficult to treat the problem.
When you start working out, be sure to avoid overexertion. It puts great strain on every part of your body and often results in hemorrhoids.
  • Wear underwear made of natural fabrics.
Cotton is the best choice for underwear, because it's breathable and soft.
  • Don't use dry and rough toilet paper.
This will irritate the skin around your anus and can cause some minor wounds that will become infected.
Clean the area thoroughly every time you use the toilet to remove the bacteria. If you are currently suffering from hemorrhoids, you should consider using anti-bacterial pads soaked in witch hazel or some numbing agent to enhance the effect of treatment.
    Avoid using alcohol based wipes.
