The symptoms of back pain may include muscle ache, shooting stabbing pain, pain radiating down your leg or limited flexibility or range of motion of your back. There may be different types of symptoms that you may find in case of back pain but most of them will fall in the mentioned types.

Most of the back pains may gradually improve with some home treatment options and proper care. It make go away within 2 to 3 weeks. However, if the pain does not go away, you should see a doctor immediately.

You need to see a doctor because backpain can signal other serious medical problems. If the backpain is causing new bowel or bladder problems, it is accompanied by fever or it resulted from a fall or injury to your back, you should see your doctor.

It is important to immediately meet your doctor if you are suffering from back pain which is severe and which is not improving with rest. If the backpain extends below the knee or if it is spreading down one or both legs, you should immediately consult your doctor. If because of the backpain you have a feeling of weakness, tingling in one or both legs or numbness and you were suddenly losing weight, it is very important that you go and see your doctor right away.

The causes of back pain

There may be different causes of back pain. It may result from some other problems or it may simply result from a fall or an injury to your back. Sometimes backpain may develop without a specific cause and it may be difficult for your doctor to find out why it is happening.

Some of the most common conditions which are generally linked to backpain are-

Muscle or ligament strain

Because of repeated heavy lifting or a sudden awkward moment may cause back pain resulting from strained back muscles or spinal ligaments. Because of your poor physical condition if your back is suffering from constant strain, then also it may result in painful muscle spasms.

Skeletal irregularities

If because of any reason your spine is carved abnormally, then backpain may occur. Scoliosis is a condition where the patient may have curves in the side of the spine. It may result in backpain if the scoliosis is severe in the patient.

Bulging or ruptured disks

Sometimes, if the disks in your spine are bulging or ruptured, then also you may suffer from back pain. Disks are like cushions between the bones present in the spine. If bulging or rapture happens, it may press on a nerve. However, in some cases rapture or bulge is seen even without backpain.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis may be another reason why you are suffering from back pain. If the vertebrae of your spine somehow develops compression fractures, then your bones may become porous and brittle. That may be another reason why you are suffering from back pain and so you need to see your doctor immediately to ensure that you are not suffering from such a problem.

Arthritis

Osteoarthritis can result in backpain because it affects the lower back. If you are suffering from arthritis in the spine, it can result in reduction of the space around the spinal cord, which is known as spinal stenosis. As a result of that, you may suffer from back pain.

It is important to get rid of your backpain immediately because a long-lasting backpain may cause other problems in your life and may make it impossible to live a normal life.
