10 best tips ever for cold sore treatment

Cold sore is an embarrassing skin problem. They are cosmetically unappealing and may also become painful for you. Cold sores are small and fluid filled lesions which appear around the lips. When they break, they may form a crust over the sore.

Since it is caused by herpes virus, no treatment can cure the virus at present. However, the following preventive measures will help you to get rid of this embarrassing problem by reducing the outbreaks, duration and severity of the problem. It will help you to ease your discomfort.

1. Use vanilla

Vanilla extract is a natural remedy for cold sore. People believe that since it is alcohol-based, it makes an environment unsuitable for the virus and thereby wipes out reduces the infection. You can use vanilla extract as soon as you feel a tingling in the affected area. Take some pure vanilla extract and using a cotton pad or swab, directly apply vanilla to sore. Keep it for some time on the sore.

2. Licorice

Licorice can help you to get rid of cold sores. This is a natural remedy. Glycyrhizic acid is an ingredient present in licorice roots. Some studies found that, it has the capacity to stop the virus cells and counteract the effects. It has got anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties. You can also get some licorice powder and use them to make a cream. If you can find, drinking licorice tea everyday will also help you to get rid of cold sores. 3. Use milk

Using milk on the sores will help you to improve the healing speed. It will also reduce the pain. Why does it happen? In milk, there is a protein called as immunoglobulins. These antibodies and they can fight viruses and other microorganisms. Immunoglobulins contain l-lysine, which is beneficial for you because it inhibits an amino acid known as arginine. Arginine is responsible for outbreaks. L-lysine also helps by increasing the healing speed. You need to drink whole milk to get the necessary l-lysine to heal faster and prevent outbreaks. Use milk on the existing sores to reduce the pain and eliminate the virus.

Take a cotton ball and soak it in milk. Apply the ball directly on the cold sores and keep it there for a few minutes. Take a clean and moistened towel and slowly dab on the sores to remove the milk residue.

4. Throw your toothbrush

If the blisters from cold sores have formed, throw out your toothbrush. Again, throw out your toothbrush when the sore has cleared up. It is necessary because your toothbrush can carry the virus and it may result in reccurrence when you use the same toothbrush again. This is a very effective preventive measure and it can help you to completely eliminate the possibility of an outbreak.

5. Use hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide can help you to get rid of the pain caused by cold sores. Even though it is not very pleasant, it can help you to get rid of cold sores and it does not hurt as bad as you think. It works as a disinfectant and does not allow the show to spread. It also increases the healing speed by arresting the condition of the sores. It will keep your infected parts clean and thereby will help in eliminating the infraction faster.

Take a cotton ball and soak it in hydrogen peroxide. Put the cotton ball on the sore. Keep it there for some time (about five minutes) and then rinse off.

6. Eat more vitamins E and C

Get more vitamins C and E in your body. Vitamins C increase white blood cell numbers, which are the defenders of your body. Whenever there is an infection, these white blood cells fight the foreign particles that can cause different types of infections. Increasing the numbers of white blood cells will help you to reduce the possibility of an infection. If you use vitamin E topicality, it reduces irritation and discomfort caused by cold sores. It also reduces the possibility of scarring.

8. Mint is good for you

Peppermint oil is good for you when you are suffering from cold sores. It is believed to have the property that can kill virus particles on your skin surface. If you use it on the erupted cold sores, it will kill the virus particles, which will increase the healing process and stop further spreading of the problem. Experiments have found that when Peppermint oil is applied directly on the cold sore, the healing time reduces. It is more effective when it is used when you see the very first sign of cold sores.

Rinse the surface of the cold sore with some water. It is necessary to remove the gunk on the surface, which will make it difficult for the oil to reach the infection. Now, dip a swap in Peppermint oil and apply the oil on the cold sores.

9. Hands off

Do not touch the crusty patch in your mouth. It is very difficult to resist the temptation to pick at those patches. But try hard and keep your hands off. Do not try to peel the patch off. If you touch those patches, it can result in a bacterial infection. If you touch the cold sores and then touch any other part of your body, the cold sores may spread to other parts of your body.

If you have a plant, then break the end of a fleshy and succulent leaf. Use it directly on the sore. If you have an aloe gel, you can dab a cotton swab in it and apply on the cold sore.
